Adjusting...
Good Day mates! I hope everyone has had an amazing week.
I did lots of office work and random things this week. And the weather is starting to get colder.
Fun Australian things:
-Push bikes are what they call bikes.
-Iced Chocolate when hot outside instead of hot chocolate.
-Over 50 car crashes a day in Adelaide city! Isn't that crazy? I have been driving for months now in the city with no crashes! Phew! But that statistic shows how bad the roads are here haha.
Weekly Highlights:
-It has taken some adjustment to being an AP. The work is a lot different than what I imagined it to be. I am finally getting to understand what my responsibilities are in this new assignment.
-We counseled with a lot of Elders over lunch or dinner which was fun! I love discussing missionary work over some good food!
-This week was the calm before the storm! The next couple weeks are going to be crazy with so much going on and a ton of travel! Be ready for some fun stories!
Spiritual thought:
I was very sad last week that I didn't have time to write a spiritual thought! The spiritual thought should be the most important part! So this week I am making sure to include a spiritual thought.
I was studying a lot about the Holy Ghost this week and his role in the plan of salvation and in our lives. It was very enlightening!
First off, it is important to understand the role of the Holy Ghost.
This was the most concise and understandable definition of the roles of the Holy Ghost that I could find.
Guide to the scriptures:
The Holy Ghost performs several vital roles in the plan of salvation.
(1) He bears witness of the Father and the Son (1 Cor. 12:3; 3 Ne. 28:11; Ether 12:41).
(2) He reveals the truth of all things (John 14:26; 16:13; Moro. 10:5; D&C 39:6).
(3) He sanctifies those who have repented and become baptized (John 3:5; 3 Ne. 27:20; Moses 6:64–68).
(4) He is the Holy Spirit of Promise (D&C 76:50–53; 132:7, 18–19, 26).
And I might add number (5) He is the comforter
In Moses 6:60 it offers some more names for the Holy Ghost which I found amazing!
61 Therefore it is given to abide in you; the record of heaven; the Comforter; the peaceable things of immortal glory; the truth of all things; that which quickeneth all things, which maketh alive all things; that which knoweth all things, and hath all power according to wisdom, mercy, truth, justice, and judgment.
The Holy Ghost does so much more than we think!
The Holy Ghost expands and enlarges our abilities. He “inspires virtue, kindness, goodness, tenderness, gentleness, and charity. … In short, it is, as it were, marrow to the bone, joy to the heart, light to the eyes, music to the ears, and life to the whole being.” (Parley P. Pratt)
Who wouldn't want our abilities to be enlarged and expanded??
There are certain conditions to having the Holy Ghost…I won't name them here but Elder Bednar explains why it is important that we don't offend the spirit.
Elder David A. Bednar explained that we must avoid anything that offends the Spirit: “The Spirit of the Lord usually communicates with us in ways that are quiet, delicate, and subtle. … “The standard is clear. If something we think, see, hear, or do distances us from the Holy Ghost, then we should stop thinking, seeing, hearing, or doing that thing. If that which is intended to entertain, for example, alienates us from the Holy Spirit, then certainly that type of entertainment is not for us. Because the Spirit cannot abide that which is vulgar, crude, or immodest, then clearly such things are not for us. Because we estrange the Spirit of the Lord when we engage in activities we know we should shun, then such things definitely are not for us.” (Conference Report, Apr. 2006, 29–30; or Ensign, May 2006, 29–30).
I want to end with an often quoted quote from President Nelson and a warning….
“In coming days, it will not be possible to survive spiritually without the guiding, directing, comforting, and constant influence of the Holy Ghost” (Russell M. Nelson, “Revelation for the Church, Revelation for Our Lives,” Ensign or Liahona, May 2018, 96).
No coming days...the time is now! Stop looking forward...Don't put aside the incredible gift we have been given. We need every part...the guiding, directing, comforting, constant influence of the Holy Ghost. If you are not familiar with the voice of the Holy Ghost, I invite you to become acquainted quickly! We need the constant guidance more than ever in these last days! Don't neglect it and you won't regret it! I promise that as you come to hear the still small voice of the Holy Ghost your life will be more peaceful and you will have a stronger connection with your Heavenly Father. You will gain more understanding and direction on where your Father in Heaven would like your life to go! This is a priceless gift!
I bear my testimony that there is a great need to know each person of the Godhead individually and their roles in the plan of salvation and how they help us obtain immortality and eternal life! Come to know the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost! Knowing and having your connection and relationship with each member of the Godhead will be vital in the days ahead!
Have a wonderful week!
Keep living it up and enjoying the warmer weather! I am back to jackets!
Here are a couple pictures from this week!
